Kelci Elliott: On Banksy's work.
ReplyDeleteWell, his work has emphasis on the guy washing the wall and on the water. The wall looks like it's a cave wall, with texture and stuff. The colors are mostly dark-ish and seem to kinda blend.
Banksy is a graffiti artist, and he spray paints on walls and stuff. But sometimes, the city or whatever washes off his work. And cave paintings are basically graffiti too, but they're considered historic and stuff. So Banksy make a (slightly humorous) statement about how if you wash off his stuff, it's the same as washing off cave paintings.
The self-potrait by Chuck Close is anything but medicore. The details in the painting are so amazing, it looks like a photograph. The hair, the stubble, the muscles, eyes, the cigarette, it all looks so realistic. And the shading and value are presented excellently, too; you can deffinetly tell where his light sources are, and you can see where the shapes in his face/body are creating shadows.
ReplyDeleteOf course, one of my more personal opinions of why this painting is NOT mediore, is how he painted himself looking like.. crap, basically. To me that just makes it all the more realistic.
I honestly don't see how anyone could not think this is a good painting.

I think that Christina's World by Andrew Wyeth is a good piece of art.You can see the texture in the painting because it shows that the wind is blowing. It also shows space by having the girl at the bottom of the painting and then having everything spread out.The color that he chose is very simple but it works for this.It would look very different it he chose crazy colors. He shows a little bit of value in the painting.
ReplyDeleteAndrew Wyeth has used the girl in this painting as a subject for some of his artworks that he has done.In this one the girl is trying to climb up the hill to get to her house. It is said that she was Wyeth's neighbor.
Wayne Thiebaud uses many or most of the elements of art and principles of art. I think that the lines and shapes that he uses are very strong and defined. I think that he does a good job of using texture for the frosting of the cakes. I think that by using curved lines instead of straight lines gives some of his cakes personality. He could have just made them all with straight lines. Most of his cakes also have value, like where the light hits the cake and he made it a little bit lighter there.
ReplyDeleteI personally really like Wayen Thuebaud's paintings of cake. I don't know too much about him or his paintings, other than most of them are of pastries. I like the colors he uses. They aren't very bold, but i think that it fits! =]

Mikayla Manning- Christina's World- This painting has lots of good texture. Its like I can see every blade of grass, every single wrinkle in her dress. I think it also has butiful value with all the shadows. Andrew Wyeth uses good lines too. I can see all the little details on the house. I dont really like the colors that much only becaues they are bland but I think that the colors work for this particular painting ever though thier boring.
ReplyDeleteThis painting is about his nighbor. She was a parapaligic, I think. She is climbing up the hill to get to the house. I like this painting. I think it looks very serious. I love the grass that he made. I think it looks awsome how he painted like every single pice of grass. He didn't make it look all one color because grass isn't all one color.

ReplyDeleteThe artpiece I chose to comment on was the one done by Posterboy. This artwork displays the use of balance by using bold colors which contrast with each other and makes it visually appealling. This artwork is balanced not only through the color contrast but the contrast of the dark face and light text near the focal point. Also, this artpiece uses unity by reflecting the colors of the text which also makes the intentions of the artwork very clear.
I think this artpiece is not just mediocre because the difficulty level in the creation of it show that the artpiece was not done by a mediocre artist. Posterboy obviously planned his work very carefully and so he was very precise and creative. I like the message of the artpiece and the way it is portraied very clearly. Posterboy had an intention and made sure the artwork was balanced enough to make it easier on the observer's eye. This is the work of a professional artist, not mediocre.

ReplyDeleteChuck Close's piece "Self portrait" is an effective piece for many reasons. He uses some beautiful value, and the texture of his skin is insanely realistic. The figure is centered, which is usually a compositional No-No, but I think that it works because of the cigarette that is hanging out of one side of his mouth.
I love this piece because of the sheer size, for one. It's huge, and while he did use a photograph as a reference, he does it so well that it doesn't seem to matter anymore. His technique is remarkable, and it looks like you could just reach out and touch him. I also like that he didn't try to beautify himself, and he kept the piece realistic.
These things are what make Chuck Close's peice remarkable, effecteve, and worth while.
Wayne Thiebaud painting with cake is my blog choice. The painting is colorful with the shadowing and designs and has a good back round making the cake half and half light and great decorations on his cakes and how they are all organized big to small and it looks pretty good he probably must have been figure drawing his cakes by looking at real ones and it looks like it is standing on some type of plate stand.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a bit edgy but needs a little more back ground it needs something behind the cakes and little more color and he needs a little more on the shadowing the cakes need more color and less gray in the background the cakes to me look dark needs little more light. His line segments need some more improvement and why does he have two cakes that are the same the other cakes in conclusion he is a good portrait artist needs work.

Pepsi: Andrew Wyeth's.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the artwork Christina's world uses proportion very well and the colors are muted so that the picture can come into focus better. It appeases the eye. It makes you want to look at it more. The whole artwork comes into focus and seems to tell a story.
I enjoy this work because it is quite interesting. If you look at it for a while you see details and start to get a wider view of it. It is very detailed, such as the grass. It is as if you see each blade. It has no reason to be mediocre. Sometimes all you have to do is stand back and see with the mind and not just the eye.
I chose Banksy. His artwork has such good lines, and the texture of the animals is amazing, like you could touch them and feel their fur. Plus you can see the value on the mans pants, which are very detailed. The space is equal, and the shape is very accurate. The color is varied, so it doesn't look like a big green area instead of grass. He uses texture alot in the spray, also.
ReplyDeleteBanksy is from London, and he works all over the world. He has his own anamatronics store. He uses irony, a lot. He is anonymous and he uses stencils. He has been to jail a few times but somehow manages to stay anonymous. His peice that I am writing about uses irony, it is talking about the cave paintings from a long time ago, they were saved and now are known as history. However his painting are being ereased and if you erease his paintings isn't that like ereasing history in the making? Things like this make him an artist, not someone who throws blobs of paint on a canvas and calls it a masterpeice. Art with meaning is what I think makes an artist.

ReplyDeleteChuck Close's self portrait is not mediocre in any way. Value, i would have to say, is his strongest element. The shading makes the painting look very realistic and have wonderful depth. The lines that make up the hair and the smoke make it look real. Also, he uses a lot of emphasis on his face by centering it in the middle of the page and not having a distracting background. There isnt much color but the lines, space, value and make up for it.
Chuck Close is not afraid to show the real him in his paintings. Personally, that is something i really like about him.
Andrew Wyhet's
ReplyDeleteChristina's Worls is an art work that is greatly done.It shows composition texture color and also it is very realistic. he shows the grass very well it alomost look like the grass is moving with the wind in the picture. shadows are shown by the varitions of the different colors in the grass so you can see the short grasses in the back and the longer ones in front. composition of how he shows the girl in front so up close then in the far back you the house and barn~i think~ how can u say that is medicore if you call that medicore u have some serious problems.
Andrew Wyhet show so much emotion behind this painting. the curiosty of why doesnt show her face just makes u wonder, why is she facing the house is she running away??? is she hiding???
that is not medicore that is a beautiful piece of art work. not only is it well done by how realistic it is it has a story of curoisty behind it. just by how her hair blows in the wind to the the little things you can find if you look up close this paiting is not medicore it is outstanding....one of a kind!!!!!!!
I would pick the one by banksy he uses very odd colors.
ReplyDeleteThe balance is very nice. It looks like
the person erasing history. And the
lines are ok too. The animals might mean
something to this artist.
That’s why
he put them in there. The texture is
unique too… The colors are
cool colors…. I also like most
of the artist work… He is
a very unique artist….
Mediocre?? You’ve got to be kidding me. Take another look at Banksy’s piece for example, there are so many things that make this a great painting and a wonderful work of art. The dark color and composition bring it roughly along and blend to make the cave paintings look ancient like the actual painting that they represent. And thus bringing reality into the picture.
ReplyDeleteHe brings past and present together in an illegal but well done work to make a statement to the world. He shows a man erasing something that was meant to be there, a crucial part of history that cannot be replaced by anything. How, I ask, can something like this be called mediocre when truth and true craftsmanship play such major rolls? The answer: it can’t.

ReplyDeleteThe peice of artwork that i choose to support if Andrew wyeth's Christina's World. My reasoning for choosing this artwork are many, one reason is that throughout this art work you can see rhythm. The way the grass looks as though its swaying in the wind along with her hair makes you focus on everything. He uses mandy art elements such as value with the shadow of her body. Also, another element i find well put is texture, in his artwork i believe he took ample amount of time to make grass look as though he put every blade of grass percisely.
I believe his artwork is genious. it shows so much even a story. Behind this art work is a story of a girl with a desease. I believe this artwork is brilliant and to me its as though Wyeth took a lot of planning and percise painting. If you think this artwork is mediocre, then taste in artwork isn't your forte.

ReplyDeleteim writing to persuade that christinas world is a very good piece of art work. i think this because of the andrew wyeth used value, texture, and color.i really like the way he used the color because he left everything kind of dark but to dark.then he made the dress that christina is wearing pink, to make a statement.
he used texture in every blade of grass, and he also used many different colors of green to make the grass look real.
i dont really know a lot about the painting, but i do know that "christina" was is nighbor and i think that he has painted her many times before.
and in the painting christina was working her way to andrews house but since she was parapaligic its not like she could just get up and walk.so thats why she is kind of laying on her side cralwing up the hill
